The Foreign Policy (FP) portal recently published their choice of top 100 public intellectuals in the world. Apparently, most of them are human scientists with expertise in political science, philosophy, communication, arts, history, religion and so forth.
The list breaks the cliche (often viewed by students in IIUM) that Human Science courses are of lesser significance compared to more professionally recognised fields such as law, architecture, medical or engineering. I am sure that not a lot of people are aware that it is the human scientists who posses the ultimate power of ideas shaping, influencing and manipulating human minds.
Interestingly, a lot of the selected public thinkers are political scientists. First question, does this affirm the sayings of al-Ghazzaali that “Politics Is The Highest Craft?”.
Second question, is there a possibility for our own Farish Noor to make it to the list in, say 10-20 years time?. What say you? 🙂
